Teacher Assistant Program
(T.A.P.)
Program Goals & Objectives
The SDA Teaching Assistant Program (T.A.P.) is designed to help dancers develop leadership skills, confidence, responsibility, and a deeper understanding of dance education. Teaching Assistants support instructors in younger-level classes and serve as positive role models both in and out of the studio.
T.A.P. members are expected to demonstrate professionalism, kindness, respect, and a positive attitude at all SDA classes, rehearsals, performances, and events.
Training & Orientation
All selected T.A.P. members are required to attend a pre-season training workshop on Thursday, August 27th (time t.b.d.). During this workshop, participants will review program expectations, responsibilities, communication skills, classroom assistance techniques, and strategies for supporting younger dancers.
Attendance & Commitment
Being a Teaching Assistant is a season-long commitment. Consistent attendance is important, as instructors and students rely on their support. Teaching Assistants are expected to communicate any absences in advance whenever possible. Excessive absences may result in removal from the program.
Teaching Assistants may also be invited to assist with special events, performances, parties, camps, and studio activities throughout the season. Participation in these opportunities is not required.
Recognition & Benefits
The Teaching Assistant Program is primarily a VOLUNTEER opportunity. T.A.P. members gain valuable experience working alongside instructors and supporting younger dancers while developing communication, responsibility, leadership, and teaching skills.
Participants may earn community service hours, receive letters of recommendation upon request, be recognized for their contributions throughout the season, and be considered for future leadership, assistant, or instructional opportunities with SDA. In addition, Teaching Assistants will receive an SDA t-shirt and other season-end recognition rewards.
*Eligible high school students may apply to be a T.A.P. Leader, a paid position within the program. Please contact SDA for more detailed information.
